Nickelback Belfast Review
Anyone who attended last night’s Nickelback gig in Belfast Odyssey arena will certainly not have been disappointed. Gone are the days were bands come to Belfast and set up their amps on a sparse looking stage, this a complete visual spectacular.

Chad Koeger is a brilliant showman and at times you really didn’t know what he was going to say next. During the night he made a complete star of additional musician “Timmy” attempted a Belfast accent with some success. The lights and pyrotechnics were stunning, there were times you could actually feel the heat from the flame blasts at the back of the stage. It was like nothing I had certainly witnessed at the Odyssey before.

Nickelback guitarist Ryan Peake also treated the crowd to a fantastic performance of Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s alright for fighting” Drummer Daniel Adair provided a near five minute drum solo spectacular that had to be seen to be believed.

Other highlights on the top of the massive audience participation were Merch Canons. “What are Merch Canons ?” I hear you ask well these are rock version of The Flaming Lips firing glitter onto the audience. These high powered canons shot T-Shirts out across the stadium. Then to out stage the canons later in the show Chad asked the crowd “who wants beer?” while a large tray of half filled plastic pint glasses was rolled on stage. Anyone who wanted beer got it as well as anyone standing within a few feet of where it landed.
Coming back for the encore featuring the classic “Rock Star” the finale was visually spectacular and my only disappointment is they are not playing again tonight – or I’d have been there. An absolutely brilliant performance by both bands on the night with Nickelback being nothing short of stunning. Good news is Chad promised a number of times they will definitely be back – we can’t wait.
Above is a camera video of a few parts of the gig, to be fair it doesn’t do the night justice but will give you a taste of what you missed
Nickelback release their next album entitled “Dark Horse” (featuring single, If today was your last day) on the 17th November 08.

The gig last night, was absolutely epic.. ALOT better than what i expected it to go! My ear’s are still ringing because of the sound! Deffinately hand to be standing! Great experience.. Please come back again Nickelback!!
Best show I’ve seen in odyssey ever, was like two concerts in one night, staind was awesome and nickelback really put on an amazing show. Come back to Belfast Nickelback and Staind
THEY WERE AWSOME!!! … i was seated and it was great wasnt as bad as you asume it would have been …. except for the dicks behind us who didnt go to hear music … but went to get drunk
the sound was great, they are amazing entertainers and you cant put them up high enough for doing what they do
…. much better than the snow patrol concert in bangor
Definitely the best gig I have been to in 5 years, the band genuinely looked as if they were loving it too. I managed to catch a cup of beer too – although not much beer left and warm – but I caught it !!!
i probably see you catch it lol … think i got it all on vid lol
omg, what a show! best i ever seen! =o)
timmyyyyyyyyyyy… lol
will def be first in line to go see them again, without a doubt!
waz amazin.
i was standing at the very front and i loved it.
my friend got a pick!
it was the best show ive ever been 2 and i cnt wait till next time
Having been to many many concerts over the last 20 years, I can honestly say I have never been to on as awesome as the Staind/Nickleback concert!
The pyro work, and interaction with the crowd would put many other bands/performers to shame!!!
Brilliant night, and am so glad I was there with my 9yr old son (who was part of the beer catching brigade!!) to experience it – not so sure about Chads jokes though! My son is threatening to tell the “fishing” joke at school on Monday!!!
Hope they are back soon!
TIMMY! TIMMY! TIMMY!
=]
Definitely agree about the jokes
I saw a few parents panicing at the fishing joke…..
This has to be the best gig I’ve been to, they definatly had me wanting more and can’t wait to see their return. I wasn’t too close to the stage but the heat off those flames was felt lol.
The other outstanding memory beside the Timmy chants has to be the smell of the place when he got us all to jump up and down to the chorus with our arms in the air, whewwwweeee!
I also have to commend the wonderful way the beer sailed through the air without any being spilt until crash landing ha ha! I loved his jokes and Belfast related humour.
I’ve some mobile footage of my own on youtube if anyones interested check out cee1003.
Absolutely fantastic gig. Can’t wait to see them play Belfast again. Sounded and looked brilliant. What a show!!! Chad is a born entertainer.
Can’t agree more, Nickelback were awesome! Can’t wait for them to come back. Best concert ive been to so far. Jokes were pretty good too lol xx
Without a doubt the best concert ever!!! Nickelback have such enormous talent and it was a real priveledge to be at the O2. I cannot understand why the critics give them such a hard time. Chad if you ever read this remember, your fans are your critics not a handful of untalented idiots with nothing better to do but bring others down! Please please come back as we are missing you already! Timmmmmmeeeeeee!
Even though I’ve only been to a few concerts before this, it was the best I’ve been to. Nickelback are brillant (Snow Patrol r better though) loved every second of it. Only bad thing was Chad calling Croke Park “that big soccer stadium in Dublin”, ah well he’s canadian doesn’t know any better, can’t wait till they come back, it will be great
