CD Scarsity ?
Today I spent nearly three hours hunting for A DVD and CD soundtrack. I won’t name the product to save my own embarrassment but it was to be used as a gift. I found one display copy in Woolworths and when I took it to the cashier to pay I was told it had been out of stock for a few days.
I was then pointed in the direction of Tesco who had an exceptionally sparse DVD chart wall. In the end I found a special box set version of the DVD, it was over double the price of the standard version but I was left with no choice. It was difficult to part with so much more.
There have been reports that Woolworth’s Entertainment UK company who supply many of the big retailers with CDs and DVDs have stopped their deliveries with immediate effect. I can’t be sure if this is the reason why I struggled to find the number 1 DVD this week in any of the stores I looked in. I would have expected that chart DVDs and CDs would have been in abundance in what should be the busiest buying weekend before Christmas.
If the freeze of EUK who boast the supply to Woolworth, WHS Smith and Tesco is the reason for these less than stocked shelves then it could result in a poor Christmas for music especially given the number of new releases targeting the Christmas market. I could be completely wrong of course………
Has anyone had similar experiences this weekend or am I alone in my rant. On an aside to give a clue as to the DVD I was hunting for, well I think Pierce Brosnan should have stuck to 007.
Update: We have just had one email from a large retailer who also has a significant online business to say they were suspending orders on CDs and DVDs until the Woolworth’s issue has been resolved.
