The Lowly Knights & The Delawares

Submitted by Muze on Tuesday, 18 November 2008No Comment

The Lowly Knights formed early in 2006 as a one-gig venture; however the whole thing was simply too much fun to end there and so what was once a side-project collective continued and developed as a band in its own right.

In their early days the Knights’ shuffling line-up saw folks from several Belfast-based bands take to the stage, but now an established mainstay of members (occasionally garnished by the talents of others) work hard to hone their distinctive sound. With a dozen members and a taste for spontaneity, the band put on a sparkling show whether on stage or busking in the sun.

Understandably, the Knights are often compared to bands with many members, Broken Social Scene, The Arcade Fire, Polyphonic Spree, however their sound has a vibrancy of its own: it’s folk and it’s rock and it is very catchy, and, armed with hooks-a-plenty, a night with the Knights is a truly memorable affair.
The Delawares have risked it all. Six disparate souls united by a common cause: to create music in a colourful tapestry of light and shade.

They are inspired by the great renaissance artists of their generation – The Beach Boys, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Neil Young, Don McLean and all those other beautiful raconteurs who have painted so much pain and joy into our lives. The result is a harmony driven, earthy sound that commands attention. Raucous live shows have become the band’s hallmark. Packing out venues in their native Belfast, they have played all over Ireland including an audience of several thousand people at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast last Halloween.
