Belsonic : Flaming Lips
BELSONIC’s opening night (Monday 11th August) will feature a headline performance from multi Platinum selling, and Grammy Award winning, U.S. alternative rock band THE FLAMING LIPS, considered by many to be the highlight of 2006’s Electric Picnic Festival, and cited by Q Magazine as ‘Of Of The 50 Bands To See Before You Die’. This, their exclusive Irish live performance in 2008, is set to coincide with the Irish premiere of their eagerly anticipated Science fiction feature film ‘Christmas on Mars’.

The group emerged from obscurity in 1999, achieving international commercial success with the release of their 10th studio album ‘The Soft Bulletin’. They have since risen to legendary status, boasting a stunning back catalogue of releases, as well as an acclaimed live show, renowned for delivering the weird and the wonderful on a grand and theatrical scale.
Special guests on the opening night are Scottish cosmic rockers MOGWAI, who have gained a reputation for huge soundscapes, huge arrangements, and huge volumes. The group was formed in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1996 by guitarist/vocalist Stuart Braithwaite, guitarist Dominic Aitchison, drummer Martin Bulloch and guitarist John Cummings, longtime friends with the goal of creating “serious guitar music.”.
Now with 5 studio albums under their belt, they have firmly established international status, standing at the forefront of the ‘post-rock’ genre.
Opening acts include hugely successful local pop-rock due OPPENHEIMER, and Dublin one man show JAPE, a favourite of The Racounters, as well as Belgian producers / djs Soulwax.
